“March 17th is around the corner”

——-

A Traditional Gaelic Blessing:

“May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand”

St. Patrick’s Day has become a significant cultural event, leading to substantial consumer spending both in the United States and globally.  The 17th of March,  has developed into an iconic business event as people shell out for plenty of corned beef and fake leprechaun beards.

United States Perspective:

More than 125 million Americans plan to mark the occasion in some way, which is approximately 30x the population of Ireland. $7.2 billion will be spent for St. Patrick’s Day in the United States (next Monday)  according to the National Retail Federation.

Global Perspective:

While precise global spending figures for 2025 are not readily available, the international impact of St. Patrick’s Day is noteworthy. For instance, in Ireland, the holiday generates over €70 million in revenue during the five days surrounding the celebration, driven by both domestic and international tourism.  Additionally, major events like Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2025 are projected to attract around 500,000 attendees, with an estimated event spending of approximately $43 million.

These figures underscore the global economic significance of St. Patrick’s Day, reflecting its widespread cultural appeal and the substantial consumer spending it stimulates worldwide.

Many consider it their favorite holiday.  Therefore, we thought it might be enjoyable to take a quick look at the celebration throughout this edition of our newsletter for its history, cuisine and offer a few tips on the almost inevitable over consumption of alcohol.
