“NCAA Basketball rings the cash register!”

This week the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament starts, and it is one of the most lucrative sporting events in the United States.  March Madness, as it has been dubbed, generates billions in revenues.

Here’s a quick look:

TV & Media Rights

• The NCAA’s biggest revenue source is its TV rights deal with CBS and Turner which has been extended through 2032 and is worth $1.1 billion annually with over 100 million expected viewers.

Sports Betting

• March Madness is one of the biggest betting events in the U.S., with over $15 billion wagered in 2024.

The First Four games which are considered qualification contests start this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Then the main tournament follows, featuring the 64-team bracket, starting on Thursday, March 21, 2025. The event culminates in the Final Four and Championship Game, which will take place on April 5 and 7, 2025, respectively.

Spring 2025
In the United States, spring starts this Thursday, March 20th and with it coinciding alongside the NCAA basketball tournament it is surely a sign of warmer temperatures to come.
