“Be safe & stay hydrated.”

Summer is a time to soak up the sunshine and enjoy outdoor activities, but it’s essential to take precautions to protect against heat-related illnesses. Staying safe in the heat begins with proper hydration and smart choices throughout the day.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), water is the best defense against dehydration, especially when you’re active in hot conditions. However, hydration isn’t just about what you drink—food also plays a key role. Eating regular meals helps replace salt and electrolytes lost through sweat, supporting the body’s ability to regulate temperature.
The CDC also advises steering clear of energy drinks and alcohol when spending time in the heat. Many energy drinks contain higher levels of caffeine than coffee, tea, or soda, which can increase the risk of dehydration. Alcohol has a similar effect and may impair the body’s ability to manage heat. In fact, consuming alcohol within 24 hours of working in the heat can significantly raise the risk of heat-related illness.
To stay safe, focus on consistent hydration, balanced meals, and avoiding substances that can strain your body’s cooling systems. With the right precautions, you can enjoy all that summer has to offer – safely and comfortably.
