Fun Fact:  What happened during the Ides of March?

March 15th, the Ides of March, will be forever be associated with the assassination of Julius Caesar.

The Ides of March refers to March 15 in the Roman calendar. It was originally a religious observance marking the first full moon of the new year in the Roman lunar calendar. However, it became infamous as the date of Julius Caesar’s assassination in 44 BCE.  A group of Roman senators, including Brutus and Cassius, conspired to kill Caesar, fearing his growing power and potential dictatorship. His murder led to the end of the Roman Republic.

The phrase “Beware the Ides of March” comes from Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar, where a soothsayer warns Caesar of his impending doom.

Today, the Ides of March is often associated with themes of betrayal and dramatic political upheaval.
